The Cure Robert Smith
What do you want in your stocking?
"I can't think of anything, really. I don't really need anything."
What are you going to give your fellow band members?
"I'm thinking of personalised crockery and cutlery. That's about the ultimate
in had taste."
Who would you like to get under the mistletoe?
"Mary my girlfriend of course. Uuuh, maybe Betty Boop."
What's the worst Christmas you've ever had?
"It was when The Cure was touring in the Alps. Our coach broke down and we had
to push it. This was on Christmas Eve, as well, and there was NO ALCOHOL. We
also only had one change of clothes so we were pretty smelly."
When did you stop believing in Father Christmas?
"It was when I saw him riding past on the back of a lorry. I was disgusted! I
just knew he wouldn't do anything like that. He was also saving things like
'Ho Ho Ho'. I just knew he wouldn't say that either."
What records do you play on Christmas Day?
"None."
Who would you like to come down you chimney?
"If the fire was on, and as long as he came down headfirst, Tommy Cooper."
What's the best thing you've ever given to anyone on Christmas Day?
"A smile."
Who or what is your ghost of Christmas past?
"It was the lime a friend and I tried drinking all the combinations in the
What To Drink With Guinness book. I die about nine before passing out. And
what a hangover!"
What are your New Year's resolutions going to be?
"I'm not making any. I don't see any reason to deprive myself of anything I
want."
Do you get drunk on Christmas Day?
"No, I like to enjoy it. I like to savour it and you can't do that when you're
drunk."
What's the loneliest New Year's Eve you've had?
"None really. But I just think it's a very depressing day as it is. Early in
the day I look back in my diary and get all morose - then I go out and get
wrecked."
Do you watch the Queen's Speech?
"Of course! I hang on to every word she says. It's riveting stuff."
