My Cure history...

 ~ ~

How I got into the Cure..

I grew up in a very very small town  Pine Valley (50 miles East Of San Diego, California) in the middle of nowhere. I first got into The Cure in the summer of 1986,  I was only twelve at the time.  I remember watching the "World Premiere" of 'Boy's Don't Cry' on MTV.  My wonderful mother had bought me the tape "Standing on the Beach".  After that I was hooked.  I really loved "The Caterpillar" and "A Few Hours After This".  I went down to El Cajon to the best record store on earth Blue Meannie Records (I got my first job there in 1990) and spent all of my allowance on a new tape ever week.  First was 'Pornography', because it had the most songs on it that I had not heard before. I remember thinking "Do I really need to buy 'The Walk'?" - Well of course I did! After buying up all of the different tapes - I had to have EVERYTHING that they had ever done!!  I am a bit obsessive. :)  - (Owning all of the records, every pressing from every country was my first love but recently I really love getting old articles and magazines.  The old reviews and articles are so priceless and some of the rare and never seen before pictures are so much fun to see.  Thank God for Ebay!)

May 1987 my mom called and said "I have a surprise for you" She brought home Kiss Me on cassette!  I had no idea it was out we did not get good radio reception in the mountains.  Well I remember putting the tape in and waiting for him to start singing.  Come on start...  I read the lyrics, and at 13 I was shocked at the graphic lyrics! ;)

As a little girl I was (I still do love D2 - I saw them in 03 and 04) a Duranie (84-86).  I did not want to see D2!  I wanted to see The Cure!!!!,  but when The Cure came to town in San Diego in July-17-87 my mother went to inquire about buying me tickets but they guy at Tripwest told her that "The Cure were on Heroin"!!! F**K!  So guess what? I got to go to Duran Duran instead of The Cure.!!?!?  When I walked into the San Diego Sports Arena to see Duran my first thought was. "O my god, The Cure were just in here last week". How very sad!  My mom still to this day jokes around about how was she to know that I would still be into The Cure after almost 18 years!!!! :) Boy was she wrong. I will never let her forget it. O well. My first concert was in 1989 and was wonderful!  Well worth the wait! ;)

My first little Cure wall!

I met my very first Cure friend on August 7, 1987 at a Pine Valley Day's Dance.  Jessica L Roberts! :) When The Cure finally came back to San Diego, CA they played on her birthday, how lucky is that! :) . We both shared such a love of The Cure.  We used to give each other notes between classes that had lines from songs and then we had to guess the song  "Hello Image...." - ?-.  Obviously I paid more attention to The Cure and not my studies.

The year 1988 seemed to go by so slow. I remember being in the car with my mom and hearing on 91X that Robert had gotten married that weekend.  I was so happy for them.  but where the hell was a new Cure album?

Thank God for the US fanzine Other Voices.  I saw the AD in the classified section in Star Hits US magazine and I immediately signed up.

The first issue I received was #9 along with my membership card and T-shirt.  I met so many wonderful friends via Other Voices.  I fact I am still in contact with a few of them.  #9 Mindy & #71 Gina (Believe it or not, I also married a member #57 Michael) :)  We also met a ton of other great people because of The Cure!. I am so very thankful for The Cure - I have met so many wonderful people because of them. - Where would I be if I had never falling for The Cure?  Check out my little page on my old and new Cure pals.
