Porl
Thompson was born in London in 1957. He studied at West Sussex College of
Design, concentrating on graphics, illustration and photography. On leaving
college he formed a design company 'Parched Art' who were responsible for the
majority of album covers for 'The Cure'. He spent 10 years touring and recording
with the band as guitarist and songwriter.
Porl seized the opportunity to move permanently to West Cornwall in 1992, where
he now lives with his wife and three children.
His work reflects strongly his passion for the 'ancientness' of West Penwith and
his love of dream states, subconscious thoughts and ethereal worlds. Porl works
predominantly at night by candlelight or in complete darkness.
A member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, Porl has had mixed exhibitions at the
Rainyday Gallery, Penzance and has exhibited work at the Penwith and Salthouse
Galleries, St Ives; Newlyn Orion Gallery, Tate Gallery Restaurant, St Ives and
The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery, St Just.
At present Porl is working on a series of paintings that have a 'main' image.
Peripheral canvases highlight aura colours and extensions from the dominant
theme.
